Special Report: Election Day Cupcakes Arrive!
Just in case you're living under a rock: It's Election Day! Have you voted? I voted early so I wouldn't have to wait in line today. Brad, however, was up at 5:30 to be at our poll by 6:30, and from what I've heard there was already an hour and a half wait there.
Wow.
It's been quite an Election Season. When did it start, 3 years ago? Is there any time these days that isn't considered Election Season? I don't think so; once you're in office you're in constant campaign mode. I guess we can thank the media for that one, and although it's a bit aggravating to the average voter I'm not sure it's a bad thing to have politicians constantly working to keep their seats. Do your job, I say; work hard and prove you deserve your seat; then ask us to help you stay there. It shouldn't be a cushy position, right?!
I'm neutral around here. I'm a member of the media so I don't discuss politics, and if I want to read about politics I'll visit another Web site. Food blogs are for food, not politics, in my opinion! Sometimes, however, they cross - times like these, when I can write about Election Day cupcakes and use these adorable sugar toppers (six Republican, six Democratic, if you're actually counting!)
Recipe is courtesy of Georgetown Cupcake (fitting, don't you think?) I bought my toppers months ago, but I wanted a new recipe to try. I saw Georgetown's owners on Martha yesterday and they sealed the deal with me. Chocolate? Cream cheese? Oh, yeah. (But NO fondant. Ew. It's pretty, but it doesn't taste all that great, if you ask me. Sugar toppers? Yummy AND adorable!)
If you vote and show me your sticker I may give you one. Or save some money and skip Starbucks and Krispy Kreme. Make a pot of coffee at home and serve these cuties to your friends tonight. As for me? I'll be at work until probably 2 or 3 a.m. But that's okay - if we media-types have to spend the night at work at least we can spend it on a sugar high!
